Who is the founder of goodboards?

The founder and owner of goodboards is Josef Holub, born in Prague in 1971 into a sporty family and has three kids of his own.

He is an optimistic man of action and an athlete with a lot of patience. Thanks to these qualities he emigrated to Germany, got self employed, founded goodboards and led the company through tough times.

When he was three years old, he already started skiing and spent almost every weekend in the mountains.
He joined two sport-schools, played handball premiere league, and finished a vocational school for foreign commerce.
One day in winter 1989 his binding broke and he kept skiing with only one ski. This new and unique experience was the spark for the change from Ski to Snowboard.

In the years 1990-1993 Josef competed in snowboard races, produced snowboards with his cousin and was the head of the Czech snowboard association.
To make new experiences and to discover the world, he emigrated to Germany when he was 22 years of age and worked in wholesale and foreign trade.

Three years later he implemented his wish to be self employed and started working as a sales representative within the snowboard industry. In the following years he evolved his own distribution, went to exhibitions and organized test tours, took care of team riders, developed snowboards and purchased materials for the production.

Following an impulse of a dealer, with all his experience and contacts, Josef founded the snowboard brand goodboards!
Out of firm conviction, all goodboards are made of premium materials by experienced crafts people only five hours away from Ammersee.

With a lot of passion, hard work, fairness and recommendations by satisfied customers, goodboards grew continuously and the product palette became bigger with wakeboards, kiteboards and ski.

Like many other companies, goodboards suffered severely with corona. All Shops, borders and ski regions were closed and the winter business sales dropped drastically by 80%.

With a positive mindset, a KfW-loan, many additional testdays and sought-after wakeboards, goodboards survived the hard times 2020-2022 and now faces the future with great optimism.

Josef lives in Bavaria at the beautiful Ammersee, takes care of the shops, is in charge of development and production, often provides advice and assembles bindings at the tests and takes good care of all of his team riders!

Materials

The design often sells the board, but the other materials are critical to performance, durability and fun.

We love timeless designs with lots of wooden elements and have already received 7 design awards for this.

To ensure that the construction is particularly well protected, looks good and lasts for a long time, the top sheet is thicker than usual. For the most part, we leave these foils unprinted and use veneers made from European woods as design elements. We obtain them from a timber dealer only 70 km away. Mineral oil-free inks are used for the printed design.

With triaxial or quadraxial glass fabric in the top chord, we achieve a 20% better power transmission for you compared to simple fabric. The whole construction is more stable, less glue is bound and, above all, the pretension is retained longer. We have this great fabric produced just 50 km away from the factory.

The wood core consists of two different hard and light woods, which we tailor exactly to our ideas in our in-house joinery. The harder wood, which has been gently air-dried for over a year for use in stress zones, such as edges and inserts, comes from sustainably managed forestry only 200 km away. The lighter wood for the less stress zones grows on specially created plantations so that no naturally grown forests are cut down.
